A La Fu
Radio Skool: Old New and True
SOLD OUT
Hosted by Juice Aleem and Maseo from De La Soul this is the first of the Radio Skool series on CD…the format was originally based on a mock radio show. (A La Fu always wanted his own show but growing up in Aberdeen, Scotland at the time didn’t exactly throw up those kind of opportunities so pretending was really the next big thing) The emphasis was very much on selecting lesser-known tracks across the spectrum, blending them into one concise piece made to fit with the idea and hope to turn the listener on to something new.
This double CD release is A La Fu in full turntable and indy hip hop mode, it’s a listening pleasure and very very interesting looking back to an A La Fu 7 years ago, especially in the dj roll…the music may have changed a little, there may be less of a turntable influence now but the craft, the way it’s compiled, the selection, the attention to detail and a want for introducing new music is still very much evident back then. It also found itself onto New York’s highly influential Turntable Lab Top 5 releases list for 2002 alongside DJ Shadow and Coldcut’s LP’s that year, a nice little achievement.
